Cookie Policy
Last updated: July 2025
1. What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device (computer, tablet, phone) when you visit a website. They allow the website to recognize your device, remember your preferences, and provide functionality. Cookies may be set by the website you visit ("first-party cookies") or by third parties ("third-party cookies").
We also use local storage, a browser storage technology that persists data on your device. Local storage serves similar purposes to cookies and is covered by this policy.
2. Types of Cookies We Use
Essential (Strictly Necessary) Cookies
These cookies and local storage items are required for the ChartPlay platform to function. They enable user authentication, session management, security measures, and core platform features. They are set automatically and do not require your consent.
Essential storage supports:
- Authentication state — keeping you logged in across page loads (local storage)
- Google OAuth flow — temporary state parameter during sign-in (cookie)
- Security measures to detect and prevent abuse
- Application state persistence (local storage)
Functional Cookies
These cookies and local storage items remember your preferences and choices to provide a personalized experience. They are set based on your selections and enhance usability but are not strictly required for the platform to function.
Functional storage supports:
- Theme selection (light/dark mode)
- Dashboard layout preferences
- Language and regional settings
- Cookie consent preferences
Analytics Cookies
These cookies help us understand how users interact with ChartPlay by collecting aggregate usage data. We use this data to improve the platform, identify bugs, understand feature adoption, and optimize performance. Analytics cookies are only set with your consent.
Information collected may include pages visited, features used, session duration, and interaction patterns. This data is anonymized where possible and is not used to build individual user profiles for advertising.
Future Optional Cookies
ChartPlay currently does not use marketing or advertising cookies. If we introduce additional non-essential cookie categories in the future, we will update this policy and request your consent before any such cookies are set.
3. Third-Party Cookies
ChartPlay uses the following third-party service that may set cookies or similar technologies:
| Service | Purpose | Category | More Information |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google OAuth | Authentication — allows users to sign in with their Google account | Essential | Google Privacy Policy |
Additional third-party services will only be added when operationally necessary or legally required. This policy will be updated accordingly before any new service that sets cookies is introduced.
4. Cookie and Storage Duration
Storage used on ChartPlay falls into two duration categories:
- Session storage: Temporary data that expires when you close your browser. Used for OAuth flow parameters.
- Persistent storage: Remains on your device for a set period or until manually cleared. Used for authentication tokens, preferences, and application state.
| Item | Type | Category | Typical Duration | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Application State (localStorage) | Local storage | Essential | Persistent | Auth token, user data, app preferences |
| oauth_state (cookie) | Cookie | Essential | 10 minutes | Google OAuth state parameter (HttpOnly) |
| User Preferences (localStorage) | Local storage | Functional | 1 year | Theme, layout, settings |
| Cookie Consent (localStorage) | Local storage | Functional | 1 year | Record cookie consent preferences |
| Analytics (if consented) | Cookie | Analytics | Up to 2 years | Usage tracking and platform improvement |
5. Managing Cookies and Storage
You have several options to manage cookies and local storage on ChartPlay:
Cookie Consent Banner
When you first visit ChartPlay, a cookie consent banner allows you to Accept All, Reject All (essential only), or Customize your preferences. You can change your preferences at any time by clicking the “Cookie Preferences” link in the website footer.
Application Logout
Logging out of ChartPlay clears your authentication token from local storage and ends your session.
Browser Settings
Most browsers allow you to view, block, or delete cookies and site data through their settings. You can typically find these options under:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Options → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Cookies and website data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data
Clearing local storage will log you out of ChartPlay and reset your preferences.
6. Withdrawal of Consent
You have the right to withdraw your consent to non-essential cookies at any time. To do so:
- Click the “Cookie Preferences” link in the website footer
- Adjust your preferences using the dialog
- Click “Save Preferences”
Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal. Essential cookies will continue to function as they are required for the platform to operate.
